What is Roofing?
by siteadmin

A roof is not only an aesthetic component of a home. It protects inhabitants and their belongings against extreme temperatures, rain, snow, and sunlight.
The style and material of the roof will influence the design of the roof. It is also dependent on the local building code.
Waterproof
Roof waterproofing is a layer of protection that keeps water out. It is crucial because moisture can lead to many problems such as damage to walls or support beams. If this continues, it could become dangerous.
There are several different types of waterproofing. Some are liquids; others come on a sheet or roll that is applied using a welding torch and adhered to your roof. This includes bitumen-based rubber membranes and EPDM rubber.
A waterproof coating is not just a barrier that protects against the elements. It can also be used to reduce your energy consumption. In order to reduce the amount of air conditioning you need in summer, most waterproofing coats are reflective. In addition, waterproofing maintains the constant temperature of the building, preventing extreme changes that can weaken and warp the roof.
Insulation
Insulation is material that blocks heat, electrical current or sound transmission. It could be a fiberglass insulator used for walls, or a wire/cable insulator that stops electricity from traveling outside the wire/cable. Insulation may also be used to keep moisture out of a structure, or stop heat transfer.
Insulators may be made from wood fibers and synthetic fibers. They can also include metal shingles. Insulators come in different densities that can achieve a range of R-values.
Loosefill insulation is blown either into spaces that are enclosed, like walls, or open areas such as attics. The most common loose fill insulating materials include cellulose, glass, and mineral (rock/slag) fiber. These products are made mostly from recycled material such as newspaper, glass or post-industrial waste. Reflective materials such as glossy aluminium foil laminated paper or plastic, commonly known as wall wrapping or sarking (also called sarking), are very effective at resisting radiant heating and reduce condensation. Structural insulation panels (SIPs), also known as wall wrap or sarking, are prefabricated insulated structural members that offer superior and uniform insulation compared to stud-frame construction.
Durability
When homeowners choose roofing materials they should take durability into consideration. No homeowner wants a roof to need replacing or repairing more often than needed. Unfortunately, warranties cannot be used as a reliable indicator of the durability and longevity of a roofing product.
Asphalt shingles make a great choice because they're durable and can be used in any climate. These shingles can last 20 years or more before needing to be replaced. They aren't as resistant to high winds and rain as other roofing materials.
Wooden roofing adds a touch of class to cottages and Tudors. You can choose from shingles and shakes made of cedar, redwood and pine. It's durable and can withstand moisture and fires, but costs a lot and requires additional framing.
Metal is a strong option, and especially if made of copper alloys, zinc alloys, or aluminum. The metal reflects the sun’s rays while maintaining a constant temperature in your home, saving you money on energy.
